3 Detox Foods to Boost Your Health This Spring

Spring is the best time for a body cleanse. You might still be feeling a bit sluggish after the gloomy winter days, but when the sun is shining brightly and there is more energy both inside and outside, it’s time to give your diet a slight detoxifying boost.

You don’t need to do a full detox program to do a minor body cleanse. Sometimes altering your eating habits is all it takes to start the process of flushing out toxins and harmful radicals that keep you from feeling perky and energized. So, what foods should definitely be on your go-to list this time of the year?

Beets

When it comes to detoxifying your body, liver plays one of the most important roles in the whole process. It’s impossible to be healthy if your liver isn’t working properly! One of the best foods to help cleanse your liver is beet root. Prepare fresh beet root juice or beet-based smoothies, boil it to make a hearty salad with nuts and dried plums, or try preparing a savoury soup named Borsch (just go for the vegan version of the dish).

Ginger

Ginger is the ultimate immunity booster you can take all year round.  In winter it helps keep you warm, and in spring it detoxifies your body and improves digestion by raising your digestive fire (agni), while reducing bloating and gas. Ginger is also packed with vitamins and antioxidants, which make it a perfect addition to your diet. Use ginger to prepare a zesty sauce, make ginger tea (or lemon-ginger-honey tea for the ultimate immunity-boosting effect) or simply add a few pieces of ginger to your fruit or veggie juice.

Dark Leafy Greens

Leafy greens are amazing no matter when you eat them, but in spring they are fresher and you get more variety. Spinach and kale are not only the most popular greens, but they are also among the healthiest of them all. They help flush out toxins and prevent a number of diseases, all the while providing you with vitamins and minerals your body craves after the winter months. There are so many things you can do with leafy greens! Add them to smoothies, make healthy salads, or prepare dietary chips that taste simply amazing.
