What to Drink Instead of Coffee?

It’s true that coffee has earned a bad reputation over the last few years. Drinking lots of coffee can be bad for you, but a little bit of coffee here and there probably wouldn’t harm you in any way and can even be beneficial for your health. Still, if you’re one of those people who want to drink less coffee without losing your morning routine of having a hot flavourful cup of some tasty drink, here are a few ideas for you.

Roasted Dandelion Root

This is seriously one of the best alternatives for coffee not many people know about. You can find dandelions literally everywhere during summer and make your very own batch of dried roots. You can later fry them lightly on a pan, ground them into a fine powder, and then use them to prepare ‘coffee’ drinks. Fried dandelion root tastes remarkably like coffee! It also has a wide range of health benefits, so having it every morning instead of the usual cup of joe will definitely make for a good start of the day. Tip: you can make a dandelion root cappuccino as well!

Chai

If you’re into milky drinks and still want to get some caffeine in the morning, then a cup of hot steamy chai may be right up your valley. It’s prepared with black tea that is brewed thoroughly to make the drink stronger. At this stage, you can also add any spices you want to make it more flavourful – cinnamon, black pepper, or cardamom. Add some milk, heat your chai till it boils, and it’s ready. This Indian-style drink is popular all across the world and can be served unsweetened, with honey or brown sugar.

Chicory Root

Chicory root is a well-known coffee alternative that doesn’t pack any caffeine whatsoever. It tastes remarkably similar to coffee and can be prepared the same way using a coffee machine. You can buy it pre-ground at almost any supermarket these days – it’s ready to use! Sometimes it even comes with added flavours, so you can experiment with your morning drinks as much as you want.

Matcha

When it comes to getting a morning boost of energy, matcha is your best alternative to coffee. Yes, it tastes nothing like coffee, but it’s a very healthy substitute that is packed not only with caffeine but with antioxidants as well. Just a little pinch of matcha tea is enough to make a cup of strong drink that will revitalize your whole system. You can also make a matcha latte or a cooling icy matcha drink with coconut milk.
